Our future can never be anything that our past didn’t have the potential to become.

And now I suddenly understand what it means.

We each and all are becoming what we may always have had the potential to become.

And now the question arises – what do I have the potential to become?

How is it possible to know?

It’s much easier to accept what I have no potential to become – graceful, at least not physically.

No offence intended.

We each strive to survive and thrive.

Invasive plants in my little garden.

Who but a gardener could ever consider that beautiful Iris plants have a natural tendency to invade … or do they only need to expand beyond their present limits?

Hosta is feeling the pressure from its neighbour.

And yet, Hosta too expands if it can, though not with the same speed or force that Iris does.

We each have our own nature.

How can we grow without expanding?

Is human territory much as a garden in that respect?

We may threaten our neighbours without any conscious intention to do so.

Or they may threaten us, if they seem to be expanding in our direction.

It’s an easier problem to resolve in the garden than in the world of humanity.

I’ll simply dig up and transplant the Iris roots (and plant) that’s moving too close to Hosta to allow for a healthy relationship between them.

The world (or garden) of humanity – does it work the same way?

And who is to do the digging up and transplanting?

And the question arises, sooner or later, how long can we play this game within the limits of a small garden (or world)?

Any possible situation can only exist as a result of a continuous stream of earlier interconnected situations.

A continuous stream of earlier interconnected situations have created the illusion of the so-called here and now.

Someday, historians and psychologists, not to mention scientists, will look for clearly defined, or not so clearly defined patterns of response that will help them to predict the future.

What’s happening today that hasn’t happened ten thousand times or more before?

Or are we each and all, slowly or more so, moving on with our life and developing a future that wasn’t here before?

Today is Canada Day, and being a dedicated Canadian, my little patio lets the world (or at least anyone passing by) know that I’m celebrating being a specific of a particular collective.

And yet, all over the world there may be billions of little people like me doing the same thing, without even knowing (or perhaps even very much caring) that we’re each and all a human within humanity.

How to retain our individual identity as a “ME” and still be part of a “WE”?

Does the problem start with any one-to-one relationship?

Is it a problem of exclusiveness vs inclusiveness?

How to solve it in the best interest of all concerned?

Are wars no more than a frustrated outcome of a failed attempt at togetherness?

Or is it necessarily always a power play?

Is possession too strong a term to describe emotions?

Some people seem to have a potential to feel qualities and strengths of .emotion that some others are not able to feel.

I have a neighbour who, now and then, seems to spiral downward into a dark area of mind.

She can become destructive and dangerous.

And yet, at other times, and fortunately most of the time, she’s harmless.

What makes her descent into darkness more dangerous is the high power of her personal energy.

We don’t all possess that high power that can lead us to positive or negative expression of what we physically do to the world around us.

Do our leaders necessarily possess that powerful personal energy?

If so, how to know how they would use great power?

What a difference a word makes, and the difference is clarity of expression of thought or feeling,

Consider a simple word such as “some,” when used to alter the meaning of a sentence, depending upon exactly where in that sentence it is placed.

I have always claimed to love everyone, more or less.

Never again.

Now, and from this moment on, I will share my feelings, at least in this respect, more accurately and more clearly, simply by saying that I love everyone, some more and some less.

Love is a variable and yet so very many people seem to give it an all or nothing at all kind of meaning.

Perhaps they need to relax their hold, not only on the word itself, but on their capacity to love.

The ever-higher price of basic advertising seems to support that it now takes more and more effort (and money) to fool us into believing what our common sense (such as it is) tells us that it just isn’t so.

A tenant issue, and I’m a tenant.

And yet, so are all the others.

I’m the oldest one in the building, and I was active, many years ago.

That’s the ticket – who really cares?

A tragic situation.

Not the little issue that should be a non-issue, but the seeming reality of indifference to a sense of community.

You can do things with one that you can’t do with the other.

Is it all about skills assessment?

I remember school counselors helping us to accept our potential to follow certain career paths that we seemed to have a natural ability to succeed in, even though we might enjoy some other.

I enjoyed dancing, and yet I had no sense of balance.

So it was with singing.

I love to sing, and yet, pity those who must listen to me.

I would never have succeeded in a dancing or singing career.

Is life that simple?

Accept our natural skills and work with them?

Perhaps there are more than seven billion blends of creative, loving, and intelligent, more or less, unique human energy that we each express.

2. Spirit tells me that

We serve our leaders as well as we can, even knowing they’re not perfect, but …

There may never have been a perfect leader, one who was all things to all people.

Like us, they’re flawed.

Can we accept their flaws and still see that they may be the best of a less than perfect choice of options?

“A man sees what he wants to see, and disregards the rest.”

Who sang that song?

Millions seem to see something that you do not.

Which doesn’t deny the reality of what you see, but we each see from a different perspective, from our personal state of awareness.

We can’t make others see what we see, and those who share what they see with the largest group of seers get to choose who runs the store.

We might all blame our childhood, or that of some others, for how we choose to live as adults.

The reality may be that we were born with a unique personality that social conditioning may cover up, but what is always within us will come through, if only now and then, until we intentionally seek to discover our more-or-less original nature, if we choose to take the path of individuation from the masses.

What Jung didn’t seem to be concerned with is the reality that our true nature may be severely flawed.

Not everyone will notice.

Why?

They may be as flawed in their thinking as the rest of us.

What hope for a just society?

It’s going to take time.

It takes money, a lot of money, to rise very far in our so-called democratic societies.

Perhaps we’re not as democratic as we might claim to be.

Advertising is expensive, and the media is controlled by a few who have a preference for whom they advertise.

Our choices are limited.

Real democracy is extremely limited.

It may necessarily be limited to our ability to live in a truly democratic community.

And, what would a truly democratic government look like?

Some ancient empires were (or considered themselves to be) democracies, and yet they waged war with every nation they could that resisted their control of world trade and power.

How far have we come in the last two thousand years?

Some might say, “We need well-balance humans who have a heart and mind.”

The good news is that we do have well-balanced humans who do have a heart and mind.

They’re just not as popular as those who express a drive to succeed at whatever it is that they choose to succeed at.

We admire that energy without being aware of the price that some others might pay for it.

Can we ever lose our soul?

It’s part of what we are and, possibly it’s our potential this time around.

We each may have a guiding energy who is working through us, to express itself in physical form, and to experience a particular human experience.

We might choose to play a villain, or a powerful leader, or possibly a savior, whether or not we have what it takes to really be successful in that role.

Planetary evil is being exposed and yet, only to those who have eyes to see it.

Planetary love is also evident to those who see it.

Hopefully, there are some who can see the worst and the best that humanity is capable of, and still have faith in the future psychological evolution of humanity.

Most of us can only see the surface of what we do see.

And words are limited in what they can convey of the insights of those who share deeper awareness with us.

We take their words at surface level.

What is referred to as dead may only seem to be dead.

We’re still alive when we’re sleeping, and yet …

We’re still living in the material world, even when seemingly lost in a dream.

“The living dead” can refer to people who don’t seem to be very aware of what’s going on around them.

And yet, they may each and all possess the potential to “wake up.”

How am I?

Perhaps as most.

Fine, and if I’m not, then I don’t know about it yet.

And what does fine mean?

Satisfied, more or less, with how Life is presenting itself.

As to vampires and other monsters, perhaps they warn us of possible degrees of exploitation.

“Buyer beware.” is a wise warning that can cover so much more potential life experience than shopping.

The good news is that we may all have to travel through the valley of The death of soul” to discover the ten thousand ways that we can misunderstand Timeless Wisdom.

Sooner or later, we each and all will develop deeper and more expanded awareness of why it was all necessary.

It’s only a matter of time and enough experience.

We may each and all, even now, be spiritual, more or less.

We simply need to develop more, and there may be nothing we can do to hurry the process more than to believe in ourselves as being basically spiritual in physical form.

What a scientist calls energy might be spirit to a believer in such.

If we’re spirit after we die, then perhaps we were spirit before we were born.

Consciousness expands into the unconscious, or does it dissolve into it?

And, do Ego and Self/Soul play the same game?

Is it a game, or just the way Life is?

Individuality and Community?

Male and Female?

What other so-called polarities merge their identity?

Day and Night?

It takes both the material and spiritual worlds to harmonize with each other in order for most of us to understand what it’s all about.

The good news is that we each and all contain (or are contained within) a blend of consciousness and unconsciousness, ego and self, male and female, and all the so-called polarities. We’re each somewhere, experiencing Life from a more or less unique perspective.

Psychology and spirituality are not necessarily at odds with each other, and perhaps are very much part of each other.

Psychology seeks to understand how and why individuals develop their more or less unique outlook on the worlds they live in.

Psychology is very much more grounded in physical reality than is spirituality, which is almost always in danger of losing itself in mist while seeking to understand the mystery of Life.

As for the content and functioning of the unconscious, for all we know the collective unconscious may be the sum total of all that the collective mind of humanity has ever known or achieved.

If that’s so, and it very well might be, then the personal unconscious would be all that the individual mind has ever known or achieved, perhaps from countless pervious lifetimes.

We read about the Akashic Records.

Their existence may be more real than myth.

A historical library of Life?

Who would want to know?

I seem to need to know as much as I can about what it’s all about, and why?

An inner voice tells me that I’m asking the wrong questions, and that I should be asking How?

We each must learn to follow before we can learn to lead.

Students learn to see the world through the eyes of their parents and teachers, until they can see directly what their parents and teachers see, or something else.

Time moves on – to reshare a three year old photo of me holding up “Spirit teaches a simple seeker – The Art of Timeless Wisdom – Book Three.

How could I ever know that I would become an author to a series of little Spirit teaches a simple seeker” books?

It’s an awesome experience that I could never have dared to even imagine would fill my later years with such pleasure.

“The Art of Timeless Wisdom – Book Three” is one of a set of three little books that may have been meant only for me, as a personal learning experience.

Someday, when money becomes available, I hope to retitle them to express this possible reality, with “Becoming Me.”

They served me very well, to prepare me to share the first of a second series, titled “Letting Go.” Letting Go went to press (Balboa Press) just before the end of 2023, so that it would qualify for this year’s “Celebration of SFU Authors.”

Now, the second book of the second series is just about ready to share. “Spirit teaches a simple seeker – Boundaries – yours, mine, and ours”

It’s an incredible experience to be part of it all, whether or not they’re ever financially successful. I’m in it for the long haul, win, lose, or draw.

“Spirit teaches …” books, (soft cover and eBooks) ae available on Amazon, Balboa, and a few other places.

I’ll possibly be dead and gone before the world discovers them as a foundation for a new and simple philosophy of life that blends philosophy, psychology, science, religion, and spirituality into one.

A walk in the Park.

The path of expanded awareness is never a walk in the park.

Parks are usually maintained by experienced gardeners, for the purpose of providing visitors with a welcome respite from the realities of daily life.

And yet, our beautiful parks can help us recover from daily struggles.

How?

They offer an alternative view of Life.

We could never struggle for a brighter future if there wasn’t a grim reality to recover from.

Without witnessing and/or experiencing the devastation of war, what value would peace offer?

Law and order are basic needs of any society.

Love and duty take second place.

Without law and order to control us, we seem to slip into a situation of gang rule, with competing gangs fighting to become the source of law and order in their community or country.

And, when the gang leader does achieve legitimacy as ruler of whatever society, then the temptation is powerful to expand that control into the lands of neighbouring societies.

Is that where we are, today?

Do our most powerful leaders attempt to become world leaders?

Has it always been that way?

Is it human nature?

The video game called Humanity.

How real are our leaders, or any of the rest of us?

Welcome to the world of illusion, when toy characters believe they’re real people.

Artificial Intelligence has come a long way when the toys are lured into believing that they are creating toys that act real.

Are unseen forces playing with us, and with our leaders?

If so, does it matter who wins and who loses?

The winners today may be losers tomorrow.

If unseen forces are only playing with us, with no betting allowed on the outcome, then it’s all in the name of learning how to play the game, as well as they can.

And we may do the same by focusing on what we’re learning from playing the game than what is happening within the game.

Can we look at our personal life with that same outlook, beyond the day-to-day events?’

The basic recipe is the same – Head, heart, ego.

And they each and all express thoughts and emotions.

And we each do what we do, whether we’re told to or not.

All trees reach toward Heaven, and yet, only because their roots reach toward Hell.

Jung used this idea to support his claim that he’d rather be whole than good.

Why did he not explain, or share, if he was aware, and he likely was, that the difference between those trees that reached higher did so because of their strength and flexibility, and more – they firmly held their ground without rigidity.

Willows bend to the wind, but Poplars resist the wind, and suffer for their inability to bend to it.

Nature can teach us so much about human nature. if we would only open our eyes and minds.

Blowing in the wind – are we each and all as no more (nor less) than one of the ten …

Picture if you can, and care to, ten thousand or more leaves reaching out from twigs that are reaching out from branches that have spread out from the trunk of a tree that has grown out from roots that are firmly, or not so firmly, planted beneath the surface of the ground, in the darkness of a life that is beyond our view, but reaching down and out to absorb, as well as they can the moisture and nutrients that the soil provides them with, as well as it can.

We, as leaves, may be oblivious as to the source of our very being. and yet we each reach as far as our energy allows us to, while still restricted by the twig that holds us as firmly as it can.

We blow in the wind, but not by personal choice.

The wind blows us about, and we, as well as we’re able to, adapt to the forces of Nature, including rain.

What choices do we have?

Perhaps the greatest possible choice available is to choose to be aware of what’s happening to us, and through us.

We’re not bystanders.

Witness testimony may be necessarily flawed, and yet personal experience may be, too.

Any and all witnesses to whatever event must necessarily see from a unique perspective in time and space, including the mental space they’re in.

And yet, the same can be said about participants in any event.

How to learn what really happened, and how?

Asking why may be less helpful.

Why may invite a judgment call?

Advanced intelligence is not artificial.

It’s our future.

Blame the machine, not me.

Kids today are generally so much more advanced in technical skills and computer understanding than their grandparents are.

I needed to ask a fifteen year old kid how to get my new computer mouse to work.

“It’s easy, Grandma, just remove the USB from the battery compartment of the new mouse …”

“A USB in a mouse’s battery compartment?

I had never seen one there>

But, I followed his advice and, Lo and behold, in a tiny slot on the edge of where the battery fits in, and touching it with my fingers, I was able to slide out this tiny little chip.

“Okay, now what?”

“Install it into the back of your desktop computer.”

Amazingly, I found another so-called USB stuck into a tiny slot.

I took it out and replaced it with the new one, and WOW!

I’m back in the saddle again.

My computer began to work for me.

How blessed we are, or at least those who are, to have young people to teach us how to live in this new world that they are creating.

We face our inner demons alone, if not now then later.

But, sooner or later they must be faced, so why not now?

Only fear prevents us, and what is it that we fear?

Feeling is a blend of emotion and thought, and yet it has a cause that is neither.

Something happens that we respond to, depending upon how we feel about what has happened.

If we welcome whatever, then we respond with a blend of positive emotion and thought.

On the other hand, if we don’t like what has just happened, then we feel a negative blend of emotin and thought.

People who feel distressed have a reason for feeling that way.

Our blood system carries nutrients to every cell in our physical body, but it also carries any contaminatnts that it picks up along the way, and shares them.

Ego therapy is needed so very much more than Self-therapy ever was, is, or ever will be.

Why have psychotherapists got it so wrong?

Unless, instead of self, they mean individual.

What I call Ego – our own nature and the confusion around it.

We have been born with a programmed role to play, and yet we have each been born into a particular society that programs us, as well as it can, to fit into and contribute to that particular society.

And then there is the personality that is the result of an ongoing attempt to harmonize differences between predisposition and learned responses to lived experiences and situations, not to mention all the people with similar (or different) mixed-up personalities.

How to harmonize them all, collectively and individually?

I studies psychology and other topics, in a formal setting when I attended University for twelve years or so, in mid-life.

What drove me back to the so-called Halls of Wisdom?

It was the memory of caring for newborn babies, several years earlier.

They each had a personality of their own, and individual ways of interacting with the world around them.

I was well aware of the concepts of Nature and Nurture, but there was something else going on, and I needed to understand what that something else was.

Alas, academia is structured in basic ways of looking at and understanding the world we live in.

It’s either this or it’s that.

We don’t get into spooky thoughts of unseen forces directing our traffic.

If you can’t put it on the table and look at it, it doesn’t exist, at least according to academia.

A future psychology?

Perhaps the day will come when even talk of Spirituality, or so-called spirituality, is history, and we all come to use more realistic terms such as Higher Mind.

We’re all aware that we’re becoming more and more aware of the world we live in, and of the one who is living in it, and seems to be trapped within a physical form, at least for now.

I always admired Freud.

He wanted to see clearly what some others dared not question.

Higher Mind may someday replace the concept of Spirituality.

Why?

Because, Higher Mind suggests clearly defined (fore or less) stages of mental development.

It takes all kinds to make a world, and as far as being a realized being, or a so-called realized being, we can only be the unique being that we each are, so no two so-called realized beings will necessarily be a mirror-image of the other.

We’ve each developed, if we have, in our own way and through unique life experiences, or even through the same or similar experiences, our individual pattern(s) of response was/were developed over time and personal experience.

I may have misled you re Ego.

Ego is a thing, even if a non-physical thing.

Ideas and emotions are things.

We can’t put everything on the table, to inspect.

Try putting your emotions for whomever on the table, unless it’s a non-physical, mental table, where they can work out their differences.

“There’s something there that wasn’t there before.”

We come into the physical world to experience and learn from it, and to contribute to it, if we can and care to, to the future development of it and all others.

This energy being that we are is different when we leave than when we arrived.

The difference is Ego.

We could call it by any other name.

Freud and Jung (who studied with Freud, for a time) both understood that the human spirit has an infinite potential to develop, but can only do so through personal experience.

We leave our physical body behind us, but what we learned from the experience of physical life has made a difference in our state of awareness.

Ego.

Three plus two equals five.

If we were at level three when we arrived, and left at level five, then the increase in our awareness (20 is our Ego, which is absorbed into our Self.

We’re more than we were before.

Next time we’ll develop another Ego, and it, too, will dissolve within our developing awareness.

So, perhaps we can put it all on a table and look at it.

A grade five child has developed from a grade three chld.

Call the difference what you will to.

Ego is as good a name as any other.

It’s easy to criticize someone else’s idea, and yet there is a danger when you do that.

We’re claiming that we’re right, and he (or she) is wrong.

The truth may lie somewhere in between.

We each understand what others say in ways of our own, based on our personal understanding of the topic, and our personal interpretation of what the other is saying.

We each may be partly right and partly wrong.

Bob Dylan sang it well (or as well as he did sing it) with “You’re right from your side and I’m right from mine.”

We can learn from each other, if we care to, and we can disagree, again, if we care to, or if it’s in our nature to disagree with anything that doesn’t make complete sense to us.

I’ve always been notorious for doing that.

I’m finally learning, after many years, to re-read, again and again, what has been said, and to try and find common ground.

It’s there, if we care to look for it.

We’re never likely to agree completely with anyone on any topic, but we can come to a consensus, if we care to.

I’ve struggled with the concept of forgiveness for many years, as many of my friends are only too well aware.

It must have driven them … and it did drive some of them to express annoyance with me.

“Hive it up.” they just as much said.

They seemed to believe that, without forgiveness, then we had to be hostile toward those we didn’t forgive.

For me, it was a totally different issue.

Up and down, and I seemed to need a level, eye to eye acceptance of each other as equals.

Now I can accept that equality is an illusion, other than the reality that we’re each equally human.

After that, differences develop.

So, where am I now?

I forgive you all for not understanding my immature concept of reality.

Utopia?

Perhaps, someday, but for now we’re all in some ways different from each other, at least some of the time.

Many so-called psychotherapists seem to focus on ego-centric issues such as what happened to us in early childhood, and who done what to us.

Survival is the foundational need of all possible worlds.

In Maslow’s Hierarch of Human Needs, our physical needs are the foundation upon which we build all of our other needs, both as individuals and as collectives.

Survival comes first, and then kundalini rises.

Jung was into being “whole.”

He and Maslow were both close to Freud, at least for a time, and they shared and developed ideas with each other.

“I’d rather be whole than good” Jung said, or words to that effect.

Goodness can be seen as static and rules based.

Wholeness expresses awareness of one’s personal comfort zone, and acceptance of it.

Jung and Maslow, and some others, may have personally experienced what Freud may never have, or, if he did, he rationalized it all.

I do that myself, sometimes, but it doesn’t work for me.

Everybody knows that.

Where did they get that idea?

Wise ones.

So, why have the wise ones, or some of them, taught us for thousands of years that kundalini rises, when we all know that it’s not possible?

The light from within each of us does rise, and yet at the same time expands.

There can be no rising of light (awareness) without at least an equal expansion of it, unless, of course, it’s within a box.

Is social conditioning as such a box, that allows us to develop the light of awareness, but only within strict (more or less) limits?

How much are we allowed to know?

How much are we allowed to grow?

And, for all we know, it may be necessary for the benefit of our community, for us not to know too much.

Plants draw from below, and yet, unless there is sunlight and fresh air, not to mention moisture, from above, the plant has no hope of activating energies from below.

Kundalini may be a two-way street, as pressure gradients are.

There is an ideal harmony between forces from within and forces from without that culminates in the highest possible state of development.

The positive side of greed – it oils the wheels of evolution, and war.

Where would humanity be without greed?

War may be a necessary part of life.

The problem is that we’ve taken it to extremes.

We can blame our leaders all we like, but it isn’t like in the old days when the masses were almost as slaves, and could be pulled into an army by the rulers of their land.

Today, the majority of men in uniform are probably killing because it’s something to do with their life, and get paid for it.

Not much different from a video game, where young kids are killing people, and loving it.

It’s unreal so there’s no guilt about doing harm.

Wild animals kill others of their kind to defend their territory, or to claim the territory of some others.

Humanity, so far, has not risen all that far from the beast.

It’s going to take time and experience before we find a better way to live together.

There is a time and place for each of us to become aware of personal responsibility for awakening to what it is that we are contributing to our society, which is as a part of a greater, more inclusive society.

We will wake up, one by one, sooner or later.

Perhaps there’s no hurry.

There is no understanding without awareness, and yet we may not always understand what we’re aware of.

What comes before why, but not everyone bothers to ask why.

Scientists do, and so do serious spiritual seekers.

Diversified experiences can benefit us all.

It can teach us humility to become aware that there are possibly many more ways than one to experience the same reality.

The scientific method values consistent results from different fellow scientists performing the same experiments using the same methods.

Spirituality is a different pursuit, and yet it could learn by paying attention to the close attention to detail that is part of the scientific methos.

We’re each following a path of our own into the unknown, as are dedicated scientists, even when they attempt to replicate the results of some others.

They know that they are not the “some others.” but are interested enough in what their fellow scientists have claimed to discover (or to prove false) that they personally test the outcome claimed by those others.

Mutual attraction means that we’re attracted to each other for our own reasons.

It’s a natural, complementary process, not one were two of the same come together.

Unless, of course, it’s like magnetism, where the less is more attracted to the more than the more is to the less.

We can gather together for a mutual cause, which isn’t quite the same as coming together just to be with someone like ourself.

We share something beyond.

Modern technology, not to mention timeless wisdom, didn’t come from nowhere.

Some of us seem to be more open to receiving different kinds of information than do some others.

Scientists and philosophers each open to particular types of ideas, and these particular types of ideas are attracted to those minds that are open to them.

Inventions usually develop in more than one area of our world at one time.

Particular ideas may be more highly developed at certain times during history, and there are receptive minds in many more places than one.

Meanwhile, most of us benefit, if we do, from the work of a few dedicated people who follow their hunches, or their dreams, and are willing to put in the time and effort required.

Are we simply watching the show?

Our life, or at least my life, seems to have a life of its own, with me as a spectator.

Who is directing it all?

I’ve just returned from an outing with two young people who seem to genuinely care for me.

How can it be?

It blows me away to experience it.

Our outing did not achieve what it was intended to achieve, and yet I came aware so very much in awe of how blessed I am to have Akari and Bill in my life.

Where do such people come from?

Why are we all not like that?

How to become as they seem so naturally to be?

Spiritual awareness is one thing, but a lived reality beyond belief is something else.

I want it.

The danger in experienced being cared for is the awareness that anything and anyone in our life is only here while they are.

And then what?

Perhaps some hesitate to open to being cared for, for fear of possibly having to deal with its future absence in their life.

Perhaps care is there for us, whether we’re aware of it or not.

Perhaps, for most of us, it seems to have been so very missing, so much of the time.

Were we simply unaware?

I now accept that it might always have been there, whether expressed or not.

Our inner essence has reasons of its own.

Both religious and spiritual people can fall into that same trap, believing that something is a mystery

It’s a lazy way of thinking, unless we accept mysteries as simply something that we don’t yet understand.

Social conditioning is never an option.

It’s a matter of more or less, and by whom.

Social conditioning is an unavoidable, evolutionary experience.

It’s never an option, but a matter of more or less, and by whom or what, and for what purpose..

Purpose is always the driving force of any evolutionary experience, including intentional social conditioning.

And yet, there is always the potential for unintentional social conditioning.

Learned helplessness can be the result of having been cared for beyond the point of serving us well.

When someone does something for someone else that that someone could very easily do for themselves, perhaps with a little help and training, then the recipient of assistance may learn, or choose, to depend on some others to do what they might be able to learn to do for themselves.

Young children usually have a powerful enough need of selfj-direction to protest against being treated as helpless beings.

Some seniors, and some others, not so senior, may choose to let others do for them what they could do for themselves, with a little assistance and/or training.

They might even learn to play helpless just to get special treatment.

This is self-destructive in the long run, for they then become less and less able to do things for themselves.

Where to draw the line?

Perhaps we’re expected to harmonize the outer and inner influences.

Social order at the physical level of existence would not be possible if everyone was allowed to follow their own conscience.

Social conditioning may be necessary for the first half of our lifetime, for the sake of social stability

After that, becoming aware of a more expanded inner awareness can benefit us as individuals without causing chaos to our society.

Whatever our inner voices may tell us to do, we’re still subject to the laws of our society.

How to harmonize them without rejecting either source?

The same principles might apply within each of all the worlds we live in – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual (as higher mind), a scientific world (if such there be), and whatever other worlds or dimensions we might live in.

We change because we must, one way or another, for our world is changing around and within us.

We adapt, if we do, or the worlds go on without us.

It’s as simple as that.

One more in a series of “Spirit teaches a simple seeker” books that has been accepted for this year’s Celebration of SFU Authors, to be held April 4, 2024.

Four little books in four years.

How long can this aged author keep it up?

Already, next year’s book is in the making.

It’s theme?

Boundaries.

Are boundaries a necessary reality of life?

Do we set them, reluctantly, only after our personal comfort zone has been invaded?

So many questions will focus on personal struggles, as has been the case with all the earlier books this simple seeker has been a part of.

And yet, what an awesome feeling to be part of it all.

I hope some of you choose to read some of them, and report back your experience(s).

Spirit, or my higher self tells me that the books have been written before I was born.

If so, then perhaps it’s true with all literature, technology, and science.

It’s all been on the drawing board of Life, waiting to be pulled into human consciousness.

We writers, artists, scientists, and inventors of whatever, may just have been in the right place at the right time, and thought a particular thought that pulled in a stream of information beyond anything we might have, or possibly could have, expected.

If we have ancestors – generations of the past, then perhaps we also have them of the future.

Life is curious, eh?

What does that mean?

With no intent to offend Freud, Jung, and some others, the day will come when the concepts of conscious and unconscious mind go the way of the Dodo bird – total extinction.

How did we get pulled into thinking that we possessed two minds.

Our so-called conscious mind is as the tip of an iceberg. with the greater part of the iceberg being beneath the surface of the water.

Oh, correction. Freud didn’t use the term unconscious mind. He recognized it as subconscious, which is closer to reality and allows for integration.

We’re not consciously aware of anything beyond our personal experience(s), and yet the Universe moves on., or as Bob Dylan sang it, “Meanwhile, life outside goes on all around you.”

Local and non-local awareness would surely be easier to understand.

We’re only aware of what we’re aware of, and yet we have the potential to become aware of much more.

Perhaps the only thing we’ll not be able to do is to do whatever.

In physical life we can do things, if we choose to, and if we’re able to.

So,, what is it that we’re now able to choose to do, if we’re able to?

To live a physical life.

Spirituality must never forget physicality.

Would it be as stepping onto a slippery slope?

Would it attract more people to us?

My mother was a schoolteacher until she married Dad, which didn’t give her many years to teach, since she married at 25.

When I had to study the poem “My Last Duchess” Mom shared with me how eloquent her teacher had read it and shared the beauty of the picture it described.

She loved the sounds of words, it seemed to me, so much more than what the words described.

I felt so emotional about the situation expressed in the poem.

Mom saw only the beauty of words.

Every physical and non-physical teacher we might have during our lifetime is an experience, and they are sharing their experiences with us.

Our children and pets can be as teachers, for they share with us what they need from us, and if we care for them, and if we are able to provide what they need, we do.

And, our own personal needs can be as teachers.

The danger of teachers of all kinds is that they may have their own reasons for teaching us whatever.

How can that be any different from the scientific approach of observation and … closer observation?

Can observation be expanded?

Why not?

We witness something, and yet, anything we witness is never an island unto itself.

We see the red light, and yet, we also see the intersection and the environment and activities in the neighbourhood around that intersection.

The red light is never (or not necessarily) seen as an island.

How to develop acting, or any other experience.

Practice, practice, practice.

We cocreate the world we live in.

We cocreate with energies and forces beyond our control.

We learn to cooperate with them, sooner or later.

And, as we learn to cooperate, we develop personal skills that contribute to the show.

Each and all of our world leaders has developed a personal style of expressing personal skills and powers.

We’re no different than any of them, but they have also developed a powerful sense of self-confidence that we can only admire and envy, if we do.

It’s so easy to believe that we have personal problems when they’re anything but personal.

They’re social constructs.

Anything that could happen to anyone could also happen to many others.

Not a chance.

We’ve locked ourselves into a little world we call our own.

From the ashes of disaster, sense arises from nonsense.

We learn from mistakes.

So, how do we manage to slip back into old patterns of living that proved, time and again, to be unproductive and self-destructive?

Nonsense may not possibly be without any sense, but only less sensible than it might be.

If so, then perhaps everything that makes sense to us today, will (or might) at some time in the future, seem to have been as nonsense.
